Normandy : Come and see for yourself...
Normandy is divided into 5 "départements": Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne and Seine Maritime, which between them offer tourists a great range of different landscapes.
In fact, Normandy has 710 km of incredibly diverse coastline: the cliffs at Etretat, the delightful ports of Dieppe, Fécamp or Honfleur; the sandy beaches of Calvados, smart towns such as Deauville, Trouville and Cabourg; the beaches of the Normandy landings; the wild Cotentin coastline; the island bird sanctuaries - Chausey, Tatihou or Saint Marcouf; and the Mont St Michel...
In addition to the charms of the coast, there are those of the wooded countryside. Normandy is the perfect place in which to ramble or just to stroll: from the Pays de Caux to the Suisse Normande, there are plenty of footpaths which wind their way past manor-houses, mills and rivers... Come and follow trails based on themes such as cider, thatched cottages, writers or mills, or discover Rouen's half-timbered houses, the cathedral at Bayeux, the famous Haras du Pin stud in Orne, etc...
Normandy is a area rich in art and history, but it is also an exceptional region for gardens which inspired many painters and writers such as Monet, Stendhal, Flaubert, Millet, Eugène Boudin, Corot, Pissarro, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas the Elder...
Normandy's character is revealed even in its cuisine: its butter, its 32 different cheeses, its thick cream, Caen tripe, the cold sausage 'andouille de Vire', and calvados - these are all visitor-attractions in their own right!
