A region of light and contrasts

A region of light and contrasts A region of light and contrasts

Seine Maritime, a region of light and contrasts, is bordered by proud and lofty chalk cliffs which look across to England. Its country lanes will take you past the clos masures  (farms sheltered by a belt of trees) of the Pays de Caux and the fields and hedgerows of the Pays de Bray, towards that Normandy delight of a cool cider served in the shade of ancient forests. Finish your journey by the Seine, where ferries and bridges link the two banks, arriving finally at Rouen, city of a thousand spires and so dear to Flaubert and Corneille.

Seine Maritime combines unique landscapes like the Seine valley with its majestic meanders, the imposing cliffs of the Alabaster Coast, the islands of greenery that are the farms of the Pays de Caux, and the traditional Normandy scenery: hedgerows and valleys, apple trees and thatched roofs.
